  • About Dr. Samuel R. Akman

Dr. Akman has been in medical practice for 30 years and was one of the earliest surgeons to start performing advanced operative laparoscopic procedures. Upon finishing his own training he became involved in the training of more senior surgeons in these techniques. He has also been involved in the teaching of doctors still in training and is currently an instructor for residents of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. A long time member of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, he has volunteered to serve on many committees that oversee care at the hospital.

Dr Akman met his wife of over 30 years while doing research on anti-cancer drugs at the University of Maryland Hospital. They are proud parents of 2 sons who are well on their way in their medical careers. Born, raised and trained in Baltimore, he is a lifelong Orioles, Ravens and Terps fan. His interests include hiking, biking, birding and medical history.
